About This Blog

Welcome to Old School Pastry!

If you've found this site, you've been searching for an old recipe or history behind it. Glad you're here.

I love old books, and since my trade is food, collecting old cookbooks and pastry & baking books is a fun hobby of mine. This is my collection of old recipes, histories I've found behind old favorites, and my sometimes-successful attempts at recreating some forgotten masterpieces.
There's something fascinating about the way the author's back then made such complex recipes so easy. Perhaps it was because they didn't have all the 'modern conveniences' such as refrigerators, supermarkets and a microwave at their disposal, and they just went in and actually cooked. No popping it in the microwave to heat-and-eat, no running down to the markets. It is also interesting to see how much the ingredient list has changed from a hundred years ago.

Enjoy your stay here!
